Dr. Grandin's contributions to the world of animal science are innumerable. However, the most well known contribution is her design of a cattle "chute" designed to improve the treatment of animals designated for slaughter. Her work in toward the humane treatment of animals in the meat industry has made her one of the foremost authorities in the design of animal handling facilities. Dr. Grandin is given credit for having "done more to improve welfare for animals at the point of slaughter than any human alive" (The Guardian, 10/25/05). She has designed livestock facilities in the United States, Canada, Europe, Mexico, Australia, and New Zeland.
